Autel Robotics has released the 8K variant of the Evo 2 at CES 2020. As we had reported earlier, The company announced a total of three drones — the EVO II, the EVO II Pro, and the EVO II Dual

So What are the differences or similarities between all three drones?

All three drones are based on the same foldable airframe, so have the same performance specifications. The difference is in the camera, EVO II comes in 3 separate camera modules and all three cameras are interchangeable.

So what do all three drones have in common? Here are the key specs:

  • Obstacle avoidance: Autel EVO II features 12 optical computer vision sensors plus two sonar sensors on its body. That way, the drone can navigate itself in all directions while avoiding obstacles.

Autel EVO II Series is one new drone body which will come in three different versions with three different camera modules. Let’s start with the EVO II. here are the camera specs for the three different variations:

Autel EVO II 8k has an 8K, 48MP camera with a 1/2" CMOS sensor. It can capture content at resolutions up to 8,000x6,000 pixels for photos, meaning you could print an image as large as 100 inches wide. Video resolution will max out at 7720×4320 pixels. It also features lossless, in-camera zoom up to 4x.

Autel EVO II Pro features a 20MP camera with a 1" CMOS sensor, an adjustable aperture (ranging from f/2.8 to f/11), HDR, an ISO range of 100-12,800, and the ability to capture 6K video.

Autel EVO II Dual boasts both a FLIR Boson sensor, with a thermal resolution up to 640x512, plus the same 8K camera that comes with the standard model. They’re capable of recording simultaneously, though seemingly at a very low resolution in thermal mode.

All 3 cameras have a maximum bitrate of 120Mbps. They will also feature 10-bit color depth. What’s more, each variant is modular, meaning you can upgrade or switch the camera system without having to buy a whole new drone.

In one word, All three drones have the same body with different cameras. EVO II 8K comes with a 1/2" camera sensor that's capable of shooting 8K video and 48MP stills. Autel EVO 2 Pro features a 1" sensor that has an adjustable aperture and can shoot 6K video. And finally, the EVO 2 Dual equipped with a FLIR Boson sensor and combines the 8K camera with a thermal camera that offers a resolution of up to 640×512.
